Unveiling Triumph: How RSS’ Stealth Campaign Drove Mahayuti to a Historic Victory in Maharashtra Election Results 2024
In the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, secured a decisive lead. Celebrations were underway in Mumbai on November 23, 2024. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), pivotal to the BJP’s ideological foundation, played a crucial role in this victory, marking a departure from its usual quiet stance in electoral politics.
Situated in Nagpur, Maharashtra holds both symbolic and strategic significance for the RSS. Losing here would have diminished the organisation’s clout. This time, the RSS focused intently on voter mobilisation in urban areas like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, successfully increasing voter turnout. The network’s grassroots efforts included door-to-door campaigns and community gatherings, effectively engaging urban constituents and countering opposition narratives.
Despite initial discomfort within the RSS regarding Ajit Pawar’s inclusion in the alliance, it highlighted the necessity of BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis leading the state if victorious. This approach aimed to solidify middle-class voter support crucial for Mahayuti’s success. The election outcome not only reflects Mahayuti’s triumph but also underscores the RSS’s strategic influence in shaping political narratives and electoral results.
