While BJP and its coalition secured victory across all five seats with substantial margins, Borah remains undeterred, promising more effort and future success for the Congress. He expressed confidence in the party’s comeback in subsequent elections, stating that both victory and defeat are accepted with humility.
Addressing the media, Borah criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for prioritizing national political engagements over state welfare. Borah accused Sarma of being a “part-time Chief Minister,” noting his unsuccessful political missions outside Assam and suggesting a focus on national affairs has undermined Sarma’s role in the state.
Despite the setbacks, Borah highlighted the party’s progress, celebrating Priyanka Gandhi’s win in Wayanad and noting increased support in Sidli and Behali. He confirmed Congress’s intentions to contest the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections in 2025, expressing faith in the support from the people of Assam and BTR.
He also pointed out that, while Congress faced losses, there was notable voter increase in seats like Dholai, where they improved by over 30,000 votes since June 2024. Borah emphasized Congress’s role in exposing alleged corruption and unmet promises by the BJP.
Additionally, Borah raised concerns over pre-poll violence in Samaguri, alleging illegal voting activities, and mentioned filing complaints with the local authorities and the Election Commission in Delhi regarding these irregularities.
This positive outlook paired with a strategic critique of the opposition reflects Congress’s resolve to bolster its political standing in Assam.
