Guwahati: In a tribute to the rich heritage of the ancient Kachari kingdom, a sandstone monolithic pillar was unveiled at the Assam Assembly complex by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This initiative underscores the state government’s ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting tribal art, culture, and heritage. Alongside this unveiling, the CM also introduced several new facilities within the Assembly, including a command and control center, cafeteria, digital corridor, and smart pole, symbolizing a blend of tradition with modern advancements.
Emphasizing Assam’s cultural legacy, Sarma announced the installation of statues at Amrit Udyan in honor of notable tribal freedom fighters from the northeastern region. He also highlighted the establishment of the Department of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture to preserve indigenous traditions and beliefs.
The Chief Minister celebrated recent cultural achievements, such as the recognition of Assamese as a classical language and the Charaideo Maidams as a World Heritage Site, alongside the global recognition of Assam’s Bihu dance. Future plans include elevating the Jhumur dance to international acclaim, further establishing Assam as a vibrant cultural hub.
Sarma noted that these initiatives reflect the government’s resolve to embrace modernity while valuing the state’s historical and cultural roots. By harmonizing these aspects, Assam aims to enrich its identity and foster appreciation for its ancient history.
