Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is currently in Kathmandu on a five-day official visit, responding to an invitation from his Nepali counterpart, General Ashok Raj Sigdel. Accompanied by a five-member delegation, including his spouse, Sunita Dwivedi, who chairs the Army Wives Welfare Association, General Dwivedi aims to strengthen bilateral military ties between India and Nepal. The delegation was welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport by Major General Prem Dhoj Adhikari, the Nepali Army’s head of the Department of Military Operations.
During his visit, General Dwivedi paid tribute to martyrs by laying a wreath at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel. He also received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters, where he held discussions with General Sigdel regarding the enhancement of military collaboration between the two nations. To symbolize the enduring friendship between the Indian and Nepali armies, General Dwivedi gifted military horses and dogs to General Sigdel and planted a Rudraksha sapling on the Nepali Army HQ premises.
A highlight of General Dwivedi’s visit is the honorary conferment of the rank of General of the Nepali Army. This honor will be bestowed upon him by President Ram Chandra Poudel during a special ceremony in the capital. General Dwivedi’s visit underscores the longstanding ties and mutual respect between the Indian and Nepali military establishments, setting the stage for continued cooperation and camaraderie.
