Shockwaves as CBI Court Denies Bail for Sumi Borah: A Powerful Verdict Unfolds
Guwahati: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Assam has denied bail to actor-choreographer Sumi Borah, who is currently incarcerated for her alleged role in an online stock trading scam valued at approximately ₹2,200 crore. Despite a lengthy hearing and her counsel’s arguments that Borah has been cooperative with the investigation, the court decided against granting bail. The CBI opposed her release, citing potential concerns related to the ongoing probe.
The investigation has implicated Borah in assisting Bishal Phukan, identified as the prime accused, by introducing potential investors to him. Both Borah and her photographer husband, Tarkik Borah, were reportedly on the run after the scam came to light but eventually surrendered to the Assam Police on September 12.
The court is set to review bail applications for Phukan and co-accused Shubanjyoti Kurmi and Chandan Nath the day following Borah’s hearing, reflecting the ongoing judicial procedures surrounding this multi-crore fraud case.
This case continues to unfold with developments expected as more testimonies and evidence come to light. Stay tuned for further updates from Assam regarding this high-profile financial scandal.
