Infuriating Waterlogging Crisis in Chandmari Ignites Commuter Outrage
GUWAHATI: The Chandmari area is facing acute waterlogging, significantly hampering daily commutes for residents and pedestrians, who are struggling to navigate flooded streets. The situation unfolded following a flushing operation by the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) after a three-day suspension of water supply, leading to local roads and residential areas being submerged in ankle-deep water.
“This has become a commuting nightmare. These incidents keep repeating, and we bear the consequences,” stated a local resident anonymously. The waterlogging, coupled with traffic disruptions, has intensified frustration among regular commuters in the affected areas.
The GJB clarified that the flooding is not due to a pipeline leak. An official explained, “Additional valves were installed, and dirt was flushed out to improve water supply around Geetanagar. This increased water flow, causing temporary waterlogging.” Despite these clarifications, the incident has sparked concerns about the GJB’s readiness to manage maintenance activities without causing inconvenience to the public.
Residents and commuters are now calling on authorities to implement proactive measures to prevent future occurrences, highlighting the necessity for improved planning and coordination. The repetitive nature of these incidents has led many to question the effectiveness of urban management systems, urging immediate intervention to maintain seamless daily operations without disruptions.
This situation underscores the need for authorities to enhance their preparedness to handle such infrastructure-related issues, ensuring that essential maintenance activities do not result in significant public inconvenience.
