Explosive Fallout: BJP and Congress Launch Fierce Attacks as Kailash Gahlot Exits AAP
On Sunday, the BJP and Congress declared that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is showing signs of fragmentation following the resignation of Delhi Cabinet Minister Kailash Gahlot. Gahlot, a key Jat leader and legislator from Najafgarh, previously managed the portfolios of Transport, Home, Information Technology, Administrative Reforms, and Women and Child Development.
The BJP dismissed AAP’s allegations that Gahlot’s departure resulted from harassment by central agencies, labeling AAP as a “sinking ship” with members abandoning it ahead of the upcoming February Assembly elections. Congress criticized AAP, citing Gahlot’s resignation as evidence of the party’s “misrule” and “corruption.” Gahlot is the third prominent AAP figure to exit the party this year, following former ministers Rajendra Pal Gautam and Raaj Kumar Anand, who joined Congress and BJP, respectively.
AAP’s Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of harassing Gahlot through Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigations, while AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar suggested that Gahlot joined BJP to avoid legal issues. BJP Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva claimed Gahlot’s resignation signifies AAP’s decline, reiterating BJP’s stance on AAP’s alleged mismanagement and corruption.
Delhi Congress leader Devender Yadav also accused AAP of being ensnared in corruption and maladministration, asserting that the party’s credibility has been severely compromised, leading to its potential disintegration.
