BJP’s Irresponsible Handling of Manipur Crisis: NPP Leader Yumnam Joykumar’s Shocking Revelation
The National People’s Party (NPP) has officially withdrawn its support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Manipur, headed by Chief Minister Biren Singh. The announcement was made by NPP National Vice-President and former Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar, who expressed a profound loss of trust in the government’s handling of the ongoing crisis in the state.
In a late-evening press conference, Joykumar revealed that NPP President Conrad Sangma has communicated the party’s decision through a formal letter to BJP President JP Nadda. The withdrawal was attributed to the BJP’s persistent disregard for the NPP’s recommendations regarding the conflict in Manipur.
Joykumar criticized the deteriorating law and order situation and asserted that the state’s integrity is at risk. He accused the BJP government of failing to manage the crisis responsibly and stated that the NPP no longer holds confidence in the Biren administration.
Despite withdrawing support, the NPP reiterated its commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region. Joykumar specifically lamented the government’s inadequate response to the rescue operation involving six hostages—three women and three children—taken by suspected militants.
The decision to withdraw was unanimously agreed upon after detailed discussions with all NPP legislators from Manipur. The NPP intends to formally notify Governor Anusuiya Uikey, the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, and other relevant authorities about their decision.
Previously, the NPP had raised their concerns in a memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah after their national executive council meeting on May 22 of the previous year, emphasizing the pressing issues in Manipur.
In related developments, a curfew has been imposed in Imphal following unrest, with heightened security measures across the city.
