Heartfelt Gesture: Eastern Railways Delays Train at Howrah for Mumbai Baraat to Reach Guwahati On Time
In a heartwarming gesture, Eastern Railways briefly detained a connecting train at Howrah station to ensure a wedding party from Mumbai could reach their destination in Guwahati on time. The move came after Chandrasekhar Wagh, a member of a 34-strong ‘baraat’ party, appealed for help on social media. Wagh highlighted their predicament due to the delayed arrival of the Mumbai-Howrah Gitanjali Express, fearing they would miss the subsequent Howrah-Guwahati Saraighat Express.
Responding swiftly, the Indian Railways decided to hold the Saraighat Express for a few extra minutes and facilitated the quick arrival of the Gitanjali Express. At Howrah, railway authorities efficiently transported the wedding party members on battery-operated vehicles from platform 24 to platform 9, where the delayed Saraighat Express awaited them. This intervention allowed the party, including the groom, to board the train shortly after 4 p.m., with the train leaving for Guwahati despite a slight delay.
Railway officials, including the Minister and senior managers, ensured the groom’s timely arrival for his wedding, affirming their commitment to passenger welfare. The Eastern Railways expressed their moral obligation in assisting such situations, earning gratitude from the wedding party. The incident, shared widely on X, garnered public appreciation for the railways’ prompt and compassionate response, demonstrating how efficient coordination and customer care can make a significant impact.
