Exciting News: First Train for Delhi Metro Phase 4 Arrives, Ushering in a New Era of Connectivity!
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) celebrated a landmark achievement with the arrival of the first six-coach train for Phase-4 operations in Delhi on Friday. Positioned at the Mukundpur depot, this train will undergo essential testing for statutory certification before entering service, according to Anuj Dayal, DMRC’s Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications. Manufactured by Alstom in Sricity near Chennai, the train was inaugurated on September 23.
Under the Phase-4 project, Delhi Metro is set to receive 312 coaches, distributed across 52 train sets, to enhance three key corridors: the Majlis Park to Maujpur extension (Pink Line), the Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg extension (Magenta Line), and the Tughlakabad to Delhi Aerocity corridor (Golden Line). Of these, the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg route will receive 144 coaches, the Mukundpur–Maujpur extension will be allocated 90 coaches, and the Aerocity–Tughlakabad stretch will get 78 coaches. Deliveries will occur in phases over the next few months.
These new trains are designed to reach speeds of up to 95 km/h, with an operational speed of 85 km/h, and feature Grade of Automation (GOA) 4, supporting driverless operations. The broader Phase-4 expansion plan involves 86 km of new lines spanning five corridors. In addition to the three under-construction corridors, two more routes—Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block and Indraprastha–Inderlok—are in the pre-tendering phase.
This development marks a significant step in Delhi Metro’s efforts to enhance the city’s public transport infrastructure, promising improved connectivity and a more efficient transit experience for commuters in the national capital.
