Justice Served: Rigorous Imprisonment for Two Men in Heart-Wrenching POCSO Cases
Two men have been convicted for sexually assaulting minors in separate cases, as announced on November 13, 2024. The Nampally court sentenced 19-year-old Hathgade Sumeeth to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a ₹7,000 fine. Additionally, the court awarded the victim a compensation of ₹3 lakh. This conviction comes nearly three years after Sumeeth assaulted a 9-year-old girl in Mangalhat, threatening her life when she resisted. The Bharosa team intervened following the complaint, finding the victim’s parents intoxicated and subsequently relocating the child to a government shelter. Her parents received counseling and successfully completed a de-addiction program before reuniting with her.
In a related case, the POCSO special court in LB Nagar sentenced 27-year-old Vadde Prakash from Bakapur village to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a ₹25,000 fine. Prakash was arrested in 2016 by Chevella police. These convictions highlight the commitment to justice for victims of sexual assault and the legal consequences for perpetrators.
