Urgent Plea Ignored: Locals Rally for Immediate Repairs on Blocked Jatanbari-Karbook Route
Residents of Jatanbari and Karbook have taken to the streets in protest over the neglected condition of a critical six-kilometer road stretch between Korbook Nabjoypara and Sembua, Chelagang. The road, last renovated in 2014, serves as a vital link for thousands of residents across several villages. However, years of neglect have rendered it nearly impassable, turning everyday travel into a significant challenge.
The demonstration saw locals blocking the main road, expressing their frustration with unfulfilled promises from local authorities. Despite repeated appeals to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) over the last six years, villagers report receiving only assurances that repairs would commence soon, but no action has been taken. A protester highlighted the constant cycle of promises, noting the disparity between verbal commitments and on-ground realities.
The deteriorating road condition has escalated into a crisis, particularly affecting access to essential services. Residents are especially concerned about the challenges faced during medical emergencies, as the poor state of the road hampers their ability to reach hospitals promptly.
During the protest, police attempted to calm the situation but could offer only reassurances without any concrete solutions. The protesting residents remain firm, demanding immediate action to restore the road and alleviate the hardships they face daily.
This public outcry underscores the urgent need for infrastructure development and government accountability in addressing the basic needs of the community.
