Tragic Clash in Jiribam: Intense Gunfight Claims Lives of 11 Kuki Militants and Heroic CRPF Jawan
Manipur Imposes Indefinite Curfew Following Armed Clash in Jiribam District
In a significant development from Manipur, a deadly encounter on Monday resulted in the deaths of 11 Kuki militants and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan in Jiribam district. The clash occurred within the Borobekra Sub-Division’s area under Borobekra police station jurisdiction.
In response to the violent incident and potential threats to public safety, the Manipur government swiftly imposed an indefinite curfew across Jiribam district. This measure aims to prevent unrest and safeguard life and property from anti-social elements. District Magistrate Krishna Kumar confirmed the prompt decision, emphasizing the need for strict law and order.
The curfew restricts individuals from carrying firearms, swords, sticks, stones, or any objects that could be weaponized. Notably, government agencies, security forces, and personnel providing essential services are exempt from these restrictions. However, individuals wishing to conduct processions for marriages, funerals, or emergent concerns must secure written consent from the Superintendent of Police.
The urgency of the situation has been highlighted, with the curfew order implemented under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023. Violation of these directives will result in legal repercussions. The Superintendent of Police, in conjunction with security forces, is tasked with enforcing the curfew to maintain peace across the district.
This series of events underscores the fragile peace in Manipur and the ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.
