According to the South Eastern Railway (SER), three coaches of the 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express went off the rails, including a parcel van and two third AC passenger coaches.

Quick response measures were initiated, with accident and medical relief trains dispatched from Santragachhi and Kharagpur soon after the incident.
