Punjab’s Heroic Initiative: Recruiting 400 Doctors and Launching New Medical Colleges to Triumph Over Dengue!

Punjab’s health and family welfare minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, announced the recruitment of 400 doctors to enhance health services and improve healthcare facilities across the state. In addition to staffing, the government plans to establish new medical colleges in four districts. Addressing personnel shortages, doctors and support staff will soon be appointed at district and subdivision-level hospitals, and current medication shortages will be resolved.

At a state-level campaign in Faridkot, aimed at identifying dengue larvae and raising public awareness, Dr. Singh highlighted a decrease in dengue cases in Punjab compared to the previous year. Faridkot district has seen a reduction from 654 cases last year to 120 this year. Dr. Singh emphasized the role of students as key communicators, aiming to educate 15 to 20 lakh people on disease prevention. MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon echoed these sentiments, urging public participation in the awareness campaign to combat dengue.

This public health initiative is timely, given the rise in dengue cases in other regions like Prayagraj, which reported nine new cases, and Lucknow, experiencing a spike with 41 new cases identified. Health officials in these areas are taking preventive actions, such as inspections and anti-larvae measures, to curb the spread.
