Unstoppable Optimism: Embracing a Joyful Life Against All Odds
Nidhin Valsan, an IPS officer now serving as DCP of Outer North Delhi, is not just a law enforcer but an inspiring figure who has triumphed over cancer, become an Ironman, and penned his memoir. In late 2020, just before his 35th birthday, Valsan faced a life-altering diagnosis of stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Despite the daunting prognosis, he embraced his treatment at the Malabar Cancer Centre in Thalassery, undergoing nine chemotherapy sessions, a bone marrow transplant, and battling COVID-19.
Throughout this journey, Valsan drew strength from his family and peers and refused to let the disease dictate his life. His tenacity was exemplified when he completed the stringent Goa Ironman Triathlon in November 2022. This feat not only symbolized his recovery but also served as a beacon of hope for others battling cancer. His journey from illness to endurance athlete, captured in his book “Cancerman to Ironman: A Police Officer’s Journey of Arresting Illness,” published in August, offers an unflinching view into his struggles and triumphs.
Recently, Valsan encountered a relapse but faced it with renewed perseverance. Now healthy, he’s back in his role with Delhi Police, driven by willpower and a message of hope. As a father of two, he acknowledges the emotional challenges his family faced but remains committed to living life fully and inspiring others with his story.
