Embarking on a Thrilling Eco Adventure: Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng Champions Kaziranga Exposure Trip
MLA Oken Tayeng recently inaugurated an eco-tourism delegation consisting of village heads, secretaries, and leaders of clean initiatives from Mebo Sub-Division as they embarked on an educational tour to Kaziranga National Park in Assam, renowned for its eco-tourism and wildlife conservation. The tour aims to equip participants with skills and insights that can be adapted to develop eco-tourism in their region. Among the attendees at the flag-off ceremony held at Mebo Charali were Extra Assistant Commissioner Toni Mitkong, local leaders, military officials from Sigar Military Station, and community members.
Sponsored by MLA Tayeng and led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sibo Passing, the delegation from the 39th Mebo Assembly Constituency is set to explore Kaziranga’s successful models of homestay management, wildlife conservation, and sustainable tourism. The goal is to implement these practices in areas surrounding the D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, which encompasses villages such as Sigar, Motum, and Borguli along the Siang River.
MLA Tayeng emphasized the community development potential of eco-tourism, urging participants to absorb valuable insights from the Kaziranga model to benefit their communities. He thanked the Sigar Military Station for their support in providing transportation, highlighting the strong civil-military cooperation. Military officials echoed this sentiment, expressing their commitment to community initiatives.
Leaders of the Gaon Burah Associations voiced their excitement for the tour. Kalom Lego and Tikeng Perme, representing their respective associations, aspire to inspire villagers to appreciate the economic and environmental benefits of wildlife conservation. Upon reaching Kaziranga, the delegation celebrated Pemey, an Adi festival traditionally associated with hunting, which now underscores wildlife protection and conservation. As a gesture of environmental solidarity, they brought saplings from Arunachal Pradesh to plant in Kaziranga, symbolizing a blend of indigenous heritage and conservation efforts.
