Devotees Flock to Palani for Electrifying ‘Soorasamharam’: Unleashing Spiritual Passion
Thousands of devotees congregated in Palani for the Soorasamharam festival, a grand event symbolizing the triumph over evil, celebrated at the Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple on Thursday. The festivities began with the ‘Kappu Kattudhal’ ceremony on November 2. In a symbolic re-enactment, Lord Chinnakumaraswamy, having received a holy lance, descended the hill temple to vanquish the asuras alongside goddesses Valli and Deivanai.
The ritual theatre involved peace talks and battles on the Giri Veedhis streets, climaxing with Lord Muruga defeating Tharakasuran and Banugopan. Devotees observing fasts ended them by consuming ‘prasadam’ of various fruits. Celebrations continued at Ariyar Mandapam, featuring special pujas for calming Lord Chinnakumaraswamy and his ascension on Indra Vimanam for a divine viewing. The celestial wedding, ‘Tirukkalyanam,’ on Friday, marks the conclusion of the six-day Kanda Sashti festival.
Government officials, including Minister R. Sakkarapani, attended the vibrant procession.
