Experience the Vibrant Magic: North East Festival 2024 Kicks Off on November 15!
The 12th North East Festival, scheduled from November 15 to 17 at Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, promises a vibrant celebration of Northeast India’s rich cultures. Organized by the Socio-Cultural Trust Trend MMS with backing from the Ministry of DoNER, the festival brings together over 200 communities to showcase their diverse heritage through music, arts, and crafts.
Prominent artists such as Zubeen Garg, Bipul Chettri, and Riar Saab will grace the stage, adding to the festival’s lively atmosphere. The NEF Music Stage will feature performances by bands like Dobom Doji Collective from Arunachal Pradesh and FENGa from Mizoram, alongside Delhi artists.
Attendees can explore numerous artisan stalls offering traditional crafts, agricultural products, and vibrant handlooms, providing an opportunity to interact directly with the skilled artisans of the region. “This exhibition allows attendees to engage directly with local artisans, showcasing the region’s resourcefulness,” organizers stated during a press meet.
A highlight of the festival includes a focus on Nagaland’s celebrated Hornbill Festival and well-known Northeast tourist spots, such as Dzukou Valley, Cherrapunji, and Charideo Maidam. Shyamkanu Mahanta, the festival’s chief organizer, expressed that “the North East Festival has grown beyond its original concept,” evolving into a key tourism event for Delhi that celebrates the Northeast’s heritage, talent, and innovation.
The culinary scene will be a treat for visitors, with 60 stalls offering Northeast delicacies, including Assam tea and Nagaland coffee. Additionally, the festival will also feature an art exhibition by Northeastern artists and a Fashion Weekend highlighting regional designs from 16 designers.
A Tourism Business Meet is set to convene tour operators from Delhi and Northeast stakeholders, focusing on promoting sustainable tourism and long-term partnerships. The festival, thus, provides a platform for cultural exchange and tourism growth while highlighting the Northeast’s entrepreneurial spirit.
