Jadeja and Sundar Shine: India Dominates New Zealand, Bowling Them Out for 235 on Day 1 – A Thrilling Test Match Unfolds!
India Dominates as Jadeja and Sundar Shine Against New Zealand in Test Opener
Mumbai, Nov 1: On the first day of the third and final Test against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, India’s seasoned spinner Ravindra Jadeja and all-rounder Washington Sundar put on an impressive performance, bowling out the visitors for 235. Jadeja collected his 14th five-wicket haul with figures of 5-65, while Sundar captured 4-81, effectively exploiting the turning track to India’s advantage.
The visitors found some respite from Will Young and Daryl Mitchell, who forged a crucial 89-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Young scored a patient 71, while Mitchell top-scored with an aggressive 82 off 129 balls, featuring three fours and three sixes. However, New Zealand struggled overall, losing six wickets for just 76 runs, with only four batters reaching double figures.
In the morning session, Sundar’s double strikes made headlines as he removed both Tom Latham for 28 and Rachin Ravindra cheaply, with both dismissals leaving New Zealand at 72/3. Akash Deep had already set the pace by trapping Devon Conway lbw for four to provide India with an early breakthrough.
Mitchell showcased resilience in challenging conditions, batting with an ice pack on his shoulder to combat the heat and humidity. Despite surviving a DRS review and several close calls, Mitchell’s defiance eventually ended when Sundar dismissed him after overpowering attacks in the later stages.
Jadeja dismantled the New Zealand line-up post-lunch, breaking the vital partnership and dispatching Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips swiftly. The innings concluded after tea with Ajaz Patel’s dismissal, as India’s bowlers took control of the match.
Brief scores: New Zealand 235 all out in 65.4 overs (Daryl Mitchell 82, Will Young 71; Ravindra Jadeja 5-65, Washington Sundar 4-81).
