In a recent post on Truth Social, Donald Trump committed to alleviating the turmoil and devastation in Lebanon, attributing the situation to the “issues” allegedly created by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump emphasized his intent to uphold an “equal partnership among all Lebanese communities.” He expressed confidence based on his first term, claiming his administration brought peace to the Middle East and promising to restore it. Trump asserted, “We will achieve a lasting peace that prevents recurring crises every five or ten years.” He called on the Lebanese community in the United States to support him, stating, “Your friends and family in Lebanon deserve peace, prosperity, and harmony with their neighbors.”
Meanwhile, the White House announced plans for U.S. engagement in the region. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre revealed that two officials, Brett McGurk and Amos Hochstein, will visit Israel to discuss pressing topics including the conflicts involving Gaza and Lebanon, the status of hostages, and concerns regarding Iran. Their visit follows recent escalations, including Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon in response to threats from Hezbollah.
The ongoing conflict has led to severe casualties, with Lebanon’s Health Ministry reporting 30 deaths and 165 injuries in just the last day. This brings the total fatalities over the past year to 2,822, with 12,937 injured. The violence has forcibly displaced approximately 1.2 million people, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The international community is closely monitoring the situation as efforts to mediate continue.
