Security Forces Capture Key ULFA-I Linkmen in Assam
Tezpur: In a coordinated intelligence-based operation from October 26 to 30, 2024, Assam Police, in collaboration with Military Intelligence, successfully launched a series of joint operations in the Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia districts. The operation led to the arrest of five overground workers (OGWs) associated with the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), or ULFA-I. The apprehended individuals include Sonu Sonar from Jagun, Babul Dehungia from Tinsukia, Ashok Ali from Sibsagar, Tonglong Konyak from Mon District in Nagaland, Ajit Changmai from Sibsagar, Boiln Burah from Sibsagar, and Kiran Sharma from Jagun, Tinsukia District.
These linkmen were reportedly in contact with ULFA-I commanders, including SS Maj Gen Arunodoy Dahotia and SS Brig Ganesh Lahon. With these latest arrests, the total number of apprehended OGWs now stands at ten. This operation marks a significant step in disrupting the ULFA-I network in the region, showcasing the enhanced coordination and effectiveness of security forces in Assam.
The crackdown follows an earlier ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy, underscoring ongoing security challenges and the proactive measures being undertaken to address insurgency activities.
