Shocking Standoff: Woman’s Desperate Petrol Threat at Collectorate Sparks Outrage
A 45-year-old woman architect from Palluruthy, employed as a licensed professional for submitting building permits, allegedly attempted self-immolation at the Ernakulam district collectorate’s Department of Local Self Government office on October 28. Distressed by news from officials about a potential temporary suspension of her license due to alleged construction violations at a commercial complex in Palluruthy, she reportedly took out a petrol bottle from her handbag. Her husband, present at the scene, tried to stop her, resulting in petrol accidentally spilling on her. She lost consciousness and was taken to Thrikkakara Municipal Co-operative Hospital, where she is stable.
The architect denied the violation charges, pointing out that Kochi Corporation officials had already issued a completion certificate without addressing the issues. Despite submitting her claims in 2020, she had received no decision. Her visit to the Collectorate was triggered by news of a potential six-month suspension based on a Department of Vigilance finding of construction norm violations.
Authorities emphasize that individuals experiencing distress or suicidal thoughts can access support and counseling by contacting 0484-2540530.
