Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang, recently convened a meeting with the Commander of the 15 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) to discuss pressing issues related to the 84.63 km Kohima-Pedi-Peren road, a significant segment of the Kohima-Lekie (Assam) route. This meeting, held in Dimapur, emerged amid discussions around the planned inauguration of this road by the Union Defence Minister, despite its ongoing construction.

Deputy CM Zeliang articulated public apprehensions, notably voiced by the Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) and the Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organization (NZPO), over the premature ceremonial launch. Concerned about the project’s incomplete status, Zeliang emphasized the need for clarity on the road’s progress and future developments.

In response, the BRTF Commander reassured that the forthcoming inauguration would not interfere with the ongoing construction efforts. He assured that the road is expected to reach completion by March 2025. It was underscored that current activities are part of routine maintenance conducted every five years, rather than a new construction initiative.

Deputy CM Zeliang urged the BRTF to establish and adhere to specific milestones and timelines to ensure the road’s timely completion. Highlighting the importance of quality workmanship, he pledged the State Government’s full support to facilitate the project’s fruition without unnecessary delays.

Additionally, the BRTF Commander committed to maintaining open communication with the State Government, ensuring that updates on the project’s progress would be shared regularly. This proactive approach aims to enhance coordination and foster a mutual understanding between the BRTF and the State Government, facilitating the successful completion of this vital infrastructure project.
