Tragic Discovery: Wild Elephant Found Dead in Assam’s Biswanath Paddy Field – Mystery Surrounds Heartbreaking Loss
Residents of Goroimari, located in Assam’s Biswanath district, discovered a wild elephant’s carcass in a paddy field on October 26. Upon this grim finding, locals swiftly alerted forest officials and the police. Sub Inspector Goutam Kumar Singh from Jinjia police station reported that the area’s Officer-in-Charge was informed about the elephant’s demise, noting that the region is frequently visited by wild elephants.
Police patrols were active the previous night, October 25, as part of regular security measures. Dr. Kusumbar Dutta, a veterinary expert, indicated that the cause of the elephant’s death would be determined following a post-mortem examination, suggesting a potential infection as a cause.
In a related incident earlier in the month, another tragedy struck when a 25-year-old wild elephant died near Ranglu Amdanga in Kaliabor. This earlier incident left local communities and officials in mourning. Reports indicate that the unfortunate event took place at night, with the elephant skidding off a hillock while traversing the forest from Ranglu’s direction.
The recurrent elephant fatalities underscore the challenges of wildlife conservation in Assam, raising concerns about the natural habitat and safety of these majestic creatures. The incidents demand prompt attention from authorities to ensure the protection and preservation of wildlife in the region.
