Exciting Transformation: Meghalaya Deputy CM Unveils Plan to Revitalize Shillong’s Essential Roads
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has announced the state government’s plan to resurface key roads in Shillong. On October 25, Dhar told reporters that this initiative aims to provide the city with “good roads,” with the Public Works Department (PWD) currently preparing the estimates for these essential road improvements.
The resurfacing plan comes as the Meghalaya government shifts focus away from the originally planned ‘smart city project’ roads, deeming them infeasible. Complications in the project’s phase-II led to the abandonment of the smart road development. Instead, the government plans to resurface approximately 40-50 kilometers of roads within Shillong city to improve infrastructure and connectivity.
Additionally, Deputy CM Dhar indicated that updates regarding the Lachumiere smart road project will be provided, though further details on this specific initiative were not disclosed. The state’s strategic redirection aims to effectively address the current infrastructural needs of Shillong, ensuring that residents benefit from improved road conditions.
