Urgent Cyclone Dana Live Updates: Dire IMD Warning of Flash Floods in 16 Odisha Districts
As Cyclone Dana approaches, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel remain vigilant at Digha beach, anticipating its impact on West Bengal and Odisha’s coastlines. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that Cyclone Dana made landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra in Odisha after midnight on Thursday. The cyclone hit around 12:10 am and will continue affecting the area until Friday morning, with predicted wind speeds reaching up to 120 kmph. The cyclone is projected to weaken and divert towards Dhenkanal and Angul districts later.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured the public of the state’s preparedness, citing direct communications with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the situation. The Odisha government has already evacuated approximately 5.84 lakh individuals from vulnerable coastal regions, although initial plans aimed to relocate one million people. This adjustment was made following assessments that Cyclone Dana might not be as severe as initially anticipated.
The IMD forecasts heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, ranging from 7 to over 20 cm, across several districts including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak, and others. These conditions are expected to persist from Friday through Saturday. The situation is being monitored via the Doppler weather radar at Paradip to ensure prompt response and mitigation efforts.
Authorities remain on high alert, prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents as they brace for Cyclone Dana’s effects.
