Today marks the deadline for filing nominations for the by-elections to nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. As of now, a total of 71 candidates have submitted their nominations, with 37 filing yesterday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for eight of these seats, including Ramveer Singh Thakur for Kundar and Anujesh Yadav for the prominent Karhal seat. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) will contest the Mirapur seat in Muzaffarnagar, fielding Mithlesh Pal. The INDI alliance plans to contest all nine seats under the Samajwadi Party’s symbol, while the Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to run independently.
In a related development, the nomination process for the first phase of the assembly elections in Jharkhand concludes today. A total of 748 candidates have submitted their papers for the 43 constituencies up for election on November 13. Prominent figures, including Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Opposition leader Amar Kumar Bauri, have filed their nominations. Scrutiny will take place on October 28, with October 30 set as the deadline for withdrawing nominations.
Additionally, authorities in Jharkhand have seized illegal materials and cash valued at over 27 crore rupees since the election announcement, and 14 FIRs have been filed for model code of conduct violations.
