Revolutionary Rocket Launch Ignites Hope: Pioneering Moon and Venus Missions Usher in a New Space Era
The Indian space program is poised for significant advancements with a series of new projects and approvals. The Union Cabinet has sanctioned four missions under the ‘Gaganyaan’ human spaceflight program and four to test technologies for India’s first space station, the Bharatiya Antariksh Station 1, targeted for 2028 completion. ISRO received additional funding of Rs 11,170 crore for these missions, along with an extra unmanned Gaganyaan flight. The development of the Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) is also approved at Rs 8,240 crore, with industry collaboration expected for future operations.
India is gearing up for ambitious planetary missions, with a Venus Orbiter set for March 2028 aiming to explore Venus’s harsh environment, and the Chandrayaan-4, a sample-return mission from the Moon. Additionally, a joint mission with Japan, LUPEX, will explore the lunar poles, requiring new lunar lander technology.
The private sector continues to thrive, with Manastu Space and Dhruva Space collaborating on green propulsion technology for the LEAP-3 mission. Moreover, Bellatrix Aerospace has unveiled ‘Project 200’ for ultra-low orbit satellites, and Ananth Technologies has pioneered private satellite assembly and testing for ISRO.
Space surveillance is expanding with new satellites, backed by a Rs 26,968 crore investment for the SBS missions. On the international front, India is preparing to launch the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) and Europe’s Proba-3, further solidifying India’s role in global space exploration. Despite being beyond its mission life, Astrosat, India’s first multi-wavelength observatory, remains operational and productive.
This surge in activity marks a pivotal moment for India’s space sector, both in collaboration and innovation.
