IAF Airlifts SDRF to Flood-Hit Keyi Panyor — Urgent Arunachal Rescue
On Wednesday, June 24, the Arunachal Pradesh Department of Civil Aviation coordinated an airlift with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to deliver State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and relief materials to flood-affected areas in Keyi Panyor district. The operation was launched after authorities received reports of sudden flash floods in the Poosa area and placed the department on emergency alert.
Acting on a formal request from Keyi Panyor Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, the civil aviation department sought air support from the Eastern Air Command in Shillong to move personnel and equipment from the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) to Pitapool. The SDRF, the state’s specialized disaster-response unit, was mobilized for on-site rescue and relief work.
Despite adverse weather, an IAF aircraft landed at Hollongi airport and subsequently flew to Pitapool, where rescue teams and essential supplies were offloaded for immediate deployment. Officials said the mission focused on rapid insertion of trained responders and life-saving materials to areas cut off by floodwaters.
Authorities added that further air support sorties are being planned as the situation develops and as additional needs are identified on the ground. Civil Aviation Secretary M. Riba and Disaster Management Secretary Dani Salu expressed gratitude to the Indian Air Force, SDRF personnel and Hollongi airport authorities for facilitating the swift movement of resources during the emergency.
They also acknowledged Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, district police and local disaster management teams for their efforts in coordinating and supporting rescue operations under difficult conditions. The flash floods have hit several parts of Keyi Panyor district, prompting officials to intensify rescue and relief measures until the situation stabilizes.
