Thom Yorke Shatters Expectations: Why He Boldly Dismisses Hopes for a Radiohead Reunion
Radiohead fans hoping for a band reunion might be in for some disappointment, as the English rock band’s frontman, Thom Yorke, has hinted that the group isn’t planning to come together anytime soon. In a candid interview with Australia’s Double J, Yorke expressed his indifference to fan speculation about the band’s future, stating, "I am not aware of it and don’t really give a flying ****." He emphasized that Radiohead is not currently a priority for him, as both he and the band members are focusing on their own individual projects. "No offence to anyone and err, thanks for caring. But I think we’ve earned the right to do what makes sense to us without having to explain ourselves or be answerable to anyone else’s historical idea of what we should be doing," Yorke added.
Meanwhile, bassist Colin Greenwood mentioned last month that although the band has been rehearsing together recently, each member remains busy with their separate endeavors, saying, "We’re still talking all the time, we just need to make a plan and get some time together sorted out in advance."
Despite the band’s indefinite hiatus, their side project, The Smile—which features Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner—has released a new album titled "Cutouts." Yorke is also embarking on a solo tour, starting in Christchurch, New Zealand, and making stops in Auckland, Australia, Singapore, and Japan.
Adding to his list of ventures, last month Yorke announced plans to adapt Radiohead’s acclaimed 2003 album, “Hail to the Thief,” for a new interpretation of Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. Entitled "Hamlet: Hail to the Thief," this project will be a collaboration with Tony and Olivier Award-winning directors Steven Hoggett and Christine Jones.
While a full-scale Radiohead reunion might not be on the horizon, fans can still enjoy the creative outputs and side projects from the band’s members, who continue to challenge musical and theatrical boundaries on their own terms.
