Crucial Push for Peace: Assam’s 7th State Level Meeting Amplifies Border Security Efforts

In a critical move to bolster border security, Assam’s Chief Secretary Ravi Kota presided over the 7th State Level Standing Committee Meeting on October 23. The gathering, which saw attendance from officers of the BSF, State Border Police, and the Directorate of Narcotics, focused on curbing cross-border crime, including cattle smuggling and drug trafficking.

A key outcome of the meeting was the recommendation to establish 12 new Border Police Stations across Cachar, Karimganj, Dhubri, and South Salmara districts. Enhancing manpower at Border Out Posts (BOPs) and Patrol Posts (PPs) was also prioritized, with 14 BOPs and PPs set for reinforcement as a secondary defense line in support of BSF BOPs.

The BSF reported that the entire land border is secured by fencing, with modern electronic surveillance being employed along riverine routes. This measure is part of a larger strategy to ensure robust monitoring and prevent illegal activities.

Discussions further highlighted the proactive steps taken through coordinated efforts to control illegal immigration. Stakeholders have been directed to keep a vigilant eye on vehicles suspected of being involved in drug smuggling. Additionally, the meeting addressed the safety and relocation of 10 border villages, emphasizing strict vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border by law enforcement agencies.
