Historic Milestone: Celebrate the Grand Inauguration of the Stunning Annexe Court Building at Mangan District Court
On October 24, 2024, the Mangan District Court marked a notable advancement in its judicial infrastructure with the inauguration of an Annexe Court Building. The ceremony, presided over by Chief Justice Biswanath Somadder of the High Court of Sikkim, featured esteemed guests, including Justices Meenakshi Madan Rai and Bhaskar Raj Pradhan. The event also saw attendance from prominent figures such as Bhim Hang Limboo, Minister for Buildings and Housing, and Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Minister for Forest and Environment, Mines, Geology, Science, and Technology.
Justice Somadder expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the project’s success, highlighting the judiciary’s vital role in providing timely justice, quoting, “Justice delayed is justice denied.” He urged the optimal use of the new facilities and advised focusing on urgent cases, encouraging judicial officers to maintain high standards in serving the community.
Subarna Rai, the District & Sessions Judge, in her welcome address, emphasized the building’s design to assist vulnerable witnesses and handle Fast Track and Family Court cases. Particular facilities include a Vulnerable Witness Deposition room, aiming to reduce the trauma faced by vulnerable witnesses. Rai also noted the project’s role in generating employment and supporting budding legal professionals.
Principal Chief Engineer YN Gautam provided a technical overview, detailing the newly constructed G+3 RCC-framed structure spanning 10,944 square feet, which includes three courtrooms and a lawyer’s hall.
Following a tour of the facility, Chief Justice Somadder officially inaugurated the building. The event concluded with Rohini Rai, Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate, delivering a vote of thanks to dignitaries, guests, and the local community, acknowledging their support. The new annexe is poised to significantly boost the district’s judicial capacities, offering modern amenities to better meet the region’s legal demands.
