Remarkable Milestone: Northeast Frontier Railway Electrification Soars to 64%!
Guwahati: Indian Railways is advancing its mission of net zero carbon emissions and full electrification, aiming to establish the world’s largest green railway network. In this ambitious endeavor, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) is accelerating the electrification of its broad-gauge routes, achieving substantial progress in the region.
To date, NF Railway has successfully electrified 2,708.52 route kilometers, accounting for 64% of its total 4,260.52 route kilometers. Within the eight Northeastern states, 1,524.71 route kilometers have been electrified, including 1,353.231 kilometers in Assam, along with routes in Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura.
Electrification efforts are systematically implemented by Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON), Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), and NF Railway Construction across various sections. This transformation is poised to enhance train mobility, fortify the rail network, and offer eco-friendly, faster, and energy-efficient transportation in the region.
The switch to electrification not only reduces pollution but also cuts the dependency on imported crude oil, thus conserving foreign currency. It promises seamless train operations, boosting average train speeds, punctuality, and eliminating delays due to traction changes. This strategic move strengthens railway infrastructure, paving the way for a sustainable and efficient rail system in Northeast India.
