Urgent Warning: Mizoram Home Minister Threatens MCVU with Permit Cancellation Amid Intense Strike
Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga has issued a stern warning to the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union (MCVU) regarding their compliance with the State Transport Authority (STA) regulations. Permit holders are urged to adhere to STA orders or risk having their permits invalidated. Despite the ongoing MCVU strike, government officials, including transport and police department representatives, have strategized measures to mitigate its impact on public transportation.
To maintain mobility in the city, district Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been instructed to deploy police and battalion personnel as necessary. Additionally, Mizoram State Transport buses will operate in the city to augment the transport network ordinarily served by city buses. Public transport operators opposing the strike will receive enhanced security provisions.
In a significant development, the Minister announced that should the MCVU persist with their strike, a temporary suspension of the odd-even vehicle registration rule will allow all two-wheelers and four-wheeler taxis to operate in Aizawl without restriction.
Importantly, there is growing resistance within the transport community against the MCVU strike. A number of associations have declared they will not participate, including the All Mizoram Petroleum Dealers Association, Mizoram Taxi Association, Petroleum Entrepreneur & Transporter Union Mizoram, Mizoram Truck Driver Association, Mizoram Oil Tanker Driver Association, Mizoram Indane Driver Welfare, All Mizoram Commercial Tripper Association (Owners & Drivers), and the Champhai District Auto Rickshaw Owners Association.
This collective decision from various transport sectors underscores a divergence from MCVU’s position, reflecting broad-based support for maintaining transportation services amidst the strike. The government remains committed to ensuring the public faces minimal inconvenience, prioritizing safety and accessible transport throughout the city.
