Shocking Bitcoin Heist: Kidnapping, Lavish Cars & Astronomical Bar Tabs Unraveled!
In one of the largest person-to-person crypto thefts in U.S. history, two young men, Malone Lam and Jeandiel Serrano, were arrested after allegedly stealing $230 million in cryptocurrency from a Washington, D.C. resident. According to court records, the pair went on an extravagant spending spree, purchasing luxury cars and jewelry, and racking up massive nightclub bills. The August 18 cyber heist involved sophisticated social engineering tactics to gain access to the victim’s Google drive and steal over 4,100 bitcoins.
Although some funds have been recovered, over $100 million remains missing, prosecutors said. The defendants utilized advanced money laundering techniques but were ultimately caught due to identification errors when creating accounts.
Authorities have linked a separate incident to the crypto theft—a kidnapping on August 25 in Connecticut. A couple was abducted while driving a rented Lamborghini, believed to be targeted because their son allegedly had access to digital currency. Six Florida men were charged with the kidnapping but not with the crypto theft. Federal and state charges have been levied against them.
Both Lam and Serrano have admitted their roles in the crypto theft. Serrano was arrested while wearing a $500,000 watch in Los Angeles shortly after returning from a luxurious vacation. Meanwhile, Lam, who admitted to multiple cryptocurrency scams, was captured in Miami.
The ongoing investigation has also raised questions about a potential connection between the couple’s son and the heist. While law enforcement continues to investigate, authorities have recovered approximately $70 million so far, leaving a substantial amount yet to be accounted for.
