Exciting News: Union Cabinet Celebrates Deepavali with Empowering 3% Dearness Allowance Hike for Central Govt Employees!
GUWAHATI: In a move aimed at alleviating the financial burden on its workforce, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned a 3% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees, effective from Wednesday, October 16. This revision, timed strategically ahead of the Deepavali festive season, is set to benefit over 1 crore employees and pensioners across the nation. Consequently, the total DA now stands at 53% of the basic salary, providing much-needed relief amid escalating living costs.
An official press release confirmed that this adjustment adheres to the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission, introducing an additional financial commitment of ₹9,448.35 crore annually to the government budget.
The DA hike will directly affect around 49.18 lakh government employees and 64.89 lakh pensioners. Previously, the government announced a 4% increase in March, which took effect from January 1, 2024. This latest increase underscores the government’s effort to cushion its employees and retirees against the ever-rising cost of living, particularly during the festive period.
This decision arrives as a positive development for many households, offering financial respite and reflecting the government’s responsiveness to inflationary pressures.
