Transforming Guwahati: Illuminating Assam with CM’s Inspiring Flags of Progress
Guwahati, Assam: Modern Street Lighting Project Launched by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
On Wednesday, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the first phase of the Smart Street Lighting System in Guwahati, signaling a significant step towards modernizing the city’s infrastructure. This initiative aims to enhance safety and energy efficiency in the capital city as it embraces upcoming festivities.
During the evening event, the Chief Minister highlighted the project’s role in transforming Guwahati into a better-illuminated city. He emphasized that the installation, costing Rs 83.96 crore, includes 11,000 energy-efficient LED lights covering nearly 1,000 roads. A centralized control and monitoring system will manage these lights, guaranteeing efficient energy usage and improved security for residents.
Sarma took to social media to explain the project’s advanced features, such as auto-dimming after midnight and real-time tracking to facilitate prompt maintenance. He underscored the project’s importance as Guwahati continues to grow, stating that streetlight coverage is vital for enhancing area safety, and announced the goal of installing over 20,000 lights in subsequent phases.
The Chief Minister also noted that the streetlights, combined with newly installed CCTVs, are expected to create a safer environment for the citizens of Guwahati. The project addresses issues stemming from insufficient illumination, promising reduced electricity waste and improved real-time service delivery.
This initiative is not only a solution to longstanding challenges related to inadequate lighting in the city but also a stride towards more sustainable urban development, providing the citizens of Guwahati with a secure and efficiently lit environment.
