Empowering Mindfulness: Ashadeep Champions Mental Health in Assam’s Workplaces on World Mental Health Day
ASHADEEP, a leading mental health organization, commemorated World Mental Health Day with an awareness event at their Bamunigaon rehabilitation center in Kamrup. This year’s theme, “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” underscores the urgent need for mental health initiatives in professional environments.
Dr. Anjana Goswami, ASHADEEP’s Director, emphasized the significance of fostering mental well-being at work, highlighting how a supportive environment can promote mental health. The event attracted diverse community involvement, including participants from Rani Nursing Institute, local villagers, medical experts from Boko Hospital, and Child Welfare department officials. Dr. Monoj Kumar Sharma from Bamunigaon Model Hospital also attended.
During her address, Dr. Goswami recounted ASHADEEP’s evolution since its inception in 1996. Initially focused on a day rehabilitation center in Guwahati for children with intellectual disabilities and mental illness, the organization expanded to provide broader aftercare programs.
The Bamunigaon rehabilitation center, operational since 2011, originally served only women but has since extended its facilities to men. Currently, it accommodates 70 individuals, offering 40 beds for men and 30 for women. Remarkably, over 1,500 individuals have been treated at the center, with 1,200 successfully reintegrated into their families not only across India but also from Bangladesh.
Dr. Goswami also highlighted the ‘Shared Home’ initiative, which offers accommodation and income opportunities for those unable to return home post-recovery, ensuring they lead independent lives. This project underscores ASHADEEP’s dedication to holistic mental health care.
The event reinforced the critical importance of mental health awareness, especially in the workplace, and showcased ASHADEEP’s persistent efforts to deliver essential mental health support.
