Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) in Guwahati achieved a commendable second place in a national short film contest during Wildlife Week, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. This recognition was awarded in the human-wildlife coexistence category. The film titled “Kaziranga (Flood Time Management of Animals in 2024)” was created by Paplu Rabha, Jantu Choudhury, Dipankar, and Bitupan Kolong. KNPTR’s field director, Sonali Ghosh, highlighted the film’s focus on how the park manages animal safety during seasonal floods.
In related events for Wildlife Week, Dehradun celebrated human-wildlife coexistence with a philately exhibition and programs at Doon Zoo, emphasizing the significance of harmonious living between humans and wildlife. The state’s forest minister, Subodh Uniyal, mentioned new attractions and incentives to boost local participation, all while lauding Uttarakhand for its increasing wildlife populations.
Meanwhile, Bhopal’s forest division hosted a ‘Tiger Walk’ rally, engaging 2,900 participants to raise awareness about tiger conservation. Bhopal is renowned for its urban tiger population, strengthening Madhya Pradesh’s title as the Tiger State.
Furthermore, Shivamogga zoo marked Wildlife Week with a conservation awareness drive, featuring a tableau of the Agumbe forests and the endangered lion-tailed Macaques. The awareness campaign highlighted the risks of feeding monkeys along Agumbe Ghat Road. The zoo will soon introduce more animals, including zebras and baboons, to enhance its collection, sourced from other Indian zoos.
