Breaking: Assam Police’s Daring JeM Crackdown Nets 10 Arrests Amid CM Sarma’s Fiery Accusation Against Congress ‘Protection’
In a significant nationwide crackdown on the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), ten individuals were apprehended in Assam, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This multi-state operation, spearheaded by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), included searches at 26 locations across Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister announced on social media platform X that the Assam Police, in coordination with the NIA, arrested members of an Islamic terrorist organization.
Sarma criticized the Congress party, accusing it of opposing the state’s efforts to combat extremist threats and protecting what he described as “this ecosystem.” A senior police official confirmed that the joint operation between the NIA and Assam Police resulted in the detention of nine suspects from Goalpara and one from Hojai district, all of whom are currently in NIA custody as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
Speaking at a separate event, Sarma emphasized the real and persistent threat to Assam from radical elements. Despite skepticism from some quarters, he asserted that each action taken by the NIA against such elements underscores the reality of these threats. He warned that radical forces have infiltrated Assam, necessitating vigilance.
Sarma also pointed to slogans chanted during an eviction drive in the Kachutoli area of Kamrup Metropolitan district as evidence of radical training. He suggested these developments could lead to significant uncertainty for Assam’s indigenous communities over the next decade. This comment follows the recent eviction drive in Kachutoli village, which resulted in two fatalities due to police firing amid violent protests.
These arrests highlight ongoing efforts to counter radicalization and maintain security in the region, reflecting broader national security priorities.
