Heart-Wrenching: Israeli Strikes Claim 105 Lives in Lebanon Amid Hezbollah’s Recovery of Nasrallah’s Body
Israel Intensifies Strikes in Lebanon Following Death of Hezbollah Chief Nasrallah
On Sunday, Israel launched new airstrikes on Lebanon, just two days after killing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an attack on Beirut’s densely populated southern suburbs.
Key Points on Israel-Hezbollah Clashes:
Lebanon reported that fresh Israeli strikes on Sunday killed 105 people and injured 359. The Lebanese health ministry confirmed deadly air raids near Sidon, with additional casualties reported in eastern and southern regions, including Beirut. Notably, four people were killed in an Israeli strike on Beirut on Monday—the first since Hezbollah, backed by Iran, engaged in cross-border fire following a Hamas attack on Israeli towns on October 7 last year, which triggered the Gaza conflict.
France announced the death of a second French national in Lebanon, following a fatal blast in southern Lebanon on Monday. This announcement coincided with the arrival of French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Lebanon, marking the first high-level foreign visit since the escalation of Israeli attacks.
Lebanese officials have stated that more than 1,000 people have been killed and 6,000 injured in the last two weeks since Israel escalated its assaults on Hezbollah. Reuters reported that the body of Hezbollah’s chief, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, was recovered from the site of an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, with no direct wounds; the cause of death was identified as blunt trauma from the blast force.
Israel’s military confirmed that the airstrike which killed Nasrallah also "eliminated" 20 other Hezbollah members, following earlier strikes that took out prominent leaders Fuad Shukr and Ibrahim Aqil. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to continue the assaults to secure northern Israel for residents displaced by Hezbollah attacks.
This intensifying conflict underscores the volatile situation in the region, with significant implications for both national security and regional stability. The international community is closely monitoring developments, urging for diplomatic resolutions to prevent further escalation and human suffering.
