Manoj Muntashir Opens Up: Adipurush Controversy Deeply Impacted Him, but He Remained Unbowed
“Adipurush” has become one of the most discussed films recently, drawing significant attention for its controversial dialogues. Starring prominent actors like Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, the movie faced heavy criticism for lines perceived as disrespectful. Audiences particularly targeted the film’s writer, Manoj Muntashir, for crafting dialogues deemed offensive, especially towards revered figures like Lord Ram and Hanuman. The backlash was so intense that Muntashir issued a public apology, clarifying that the controversial dialogues were unintentional, and his aim was never to disrespect anyone’s sentiments.
In a candid conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube, Muntashir opened up about the toll the trolling took on him. He shared the emotional strain he experienced, revealing that he shed many tears over the controversy. Through this ordeal, Muntashir said he realized the impermanence of public opinion, acknowledging that what is praised today might be criticized tomorrow, and vice versa. Despite the negativity, he remains determined and continues to work diligently on his projects.
Aside from the writing backlash, Muntashir also defended specific dialogues concerning Lord Hanuman, explaining his perspective that Hanuman is seen as a powerful devotee rather than a deity. This explanation, however, did little to appease the critics.
Saif Ali Khan, addressing the “Adipurush” fiasco, remarked on the sensitive nature of religious themes and their impact on audiences. Despite these challenges, director Om Raut praised Prabhas and maintained a positive outlook on the film’s performance at the box office.
In the midst of these discussions, veteran actor Mukesh Khanna added his voice, sharing his critique of comedian Kapil Sharma, calling him “Asabhya” (uncivilized), although this seemed unrelated to the “Adipurush” controversy.
The dialogues that faced the most heat included, “Kapda tere baap ka, aag tere baap ki, tel tere baap ka, jalegi bhi tere baap ki” and “Mere ek sapole ne tere Sheshnag ko lamba kar diya,” which many found inappropriate.
