Disastrous: Puducherry’s Temporary Bus Stand at AFT Ground Becomes Slushy Nightmare After Recent Rains
**Puducherry, September 29, 2024—Recent rains have turned the temporary bus stand at AFT grounds on Cuddalore Road into a slushy mess, greatly inconveniencing passengers and bus crew. This bus stand was set up by the Puducherry Municipality as a temporary measure while the Rajiv Gandhi bus terminus undergoes reconstruction under the Smart Cities Mission. Operating since June, the temporary stand accommodates over 500 buses, including those of the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), but offers only basic facilities such as ground leveling, sheds, and lighting.
The officials, however, failed to anticipate the impact of rain, leading to waterlogging and severe damage to the temporary bus stand’s surface. Complaints from daily commuters highlight the lack of seating and the pervasive mud and stench, describing the situation as a "nightmare."
Local resident Thanvinsun expressed concern over the conditions worsening with the upcoming monsoon. An official confirmed that efforts are underway to manage the situation, including pumping out stagnated water, while emphasizing the ongoing progress of the new bus terminus reconstruction, expected to be completed soon.
