Prabhas’ Epic ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Unveils at Busan International Film Festival: A Dazzling Cinematic Masterpiece
Mumbai, Sep: National Award-winning filmmaker Nag Ashwin’s celebrated blockbuster “Kalki 2898 AD” is set to make waves at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival. The 29th edition of the festival will run from October 2 to October 11, with the much-anticipated film being screened on October 8 and 9.
Marking a significant milestone, “Kalki 2898 AD” was the first Indian film to debut its teaser at the illustrious San Diego Comic-Con. This film stands as the inaugural chapter in the Kalki Cinematic Universe, set in the year 2898 AD. It weaves a narrative beginning in the now-desolate Kashi, illustrating an era dominated by the tyrannical Supreme Yaskin. Amidst this dystopian reality, a beacon of hope emerges in the form of SUM80, who heralds the arrival of Lord Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu, jeopardizing Yaskin’s authoritarian rule.
The star-studded cast is led by cinematic legends Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan. Amitabh portrays Ashwatthama, an immortal warrior cursed to wander the Earth for nearly six thousand years, and ally to the Kauravas. Prabhas delivers a riveting double performance, as both the bounty hunter Bhairava and Karna, an ancient warrior allied with the Kauravas in a past life. Kamal Haasan takes on the role of the Supreme Yaskin, a despotic god-king ruling this post-apocalyptic world.
In August, Nag Ashwin shared insights about collaborating with Amitabh Bachchan, lauding his patience and dedication amidst an extensive use of CG and green screen. The ensemble cast also includes Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, with notable cameos by S.S. Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma, Mrunal Thakur, Vijay Devarakonda, Saswata Chatterjee, Dulquer Salmaan, and Anna Ben.
Generating a spectacular Rs 1,200 crores worldwide, “Kalki 2898 AD” closed its run with over Rs 330 crores at the Hindi Box Office, solidifying its status as an international cinematic triumph.
