Speaking on ABC’s “The View,” Biden expressed cautious optimism that a diplomatic solution could avert further conflict, suggesting that a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah might lead to a broader cessation of hostilities with Hamas militants in Gaza.
The conflict, which marks its one-year anniversary on October 7 following Hamas’s incursion into southern Israel, has led to tens of thousands of casualties, predominantly Palestinians in Gaza. Biden emphasized his commitment to utilizing all available resources to push for a peaceful resolution. “An all-out war is possible,” he stated, “but there’s also an opportunity for a settlement that could fundamentally change the region.”
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue military operations against Hezbollah until residents in the northern regions can securely return home. “We are striking Hezbollah with unprecedented force and strategy,” Netanyahu asserted, promising relentless efforts until the situation stabilizes.
Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi echoed this sentiment, instructing soldiers to prepare for potential incursions into Lebanon. “We will continue our attacks on Hezbollah,” Halevi declared, “and your maneuver boots will enter enemy territory if necessary.” He stressed that these actions are essential for ensuring the safe repatriation of northern residents.
In parallel, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been actively urging both parties to de-escalate, cautioning that an all-out war would severely impact the region. In an interview with CBS News, Blinken underscored that the best path forward is one that avoids further military escalation.
