Guwahati: APCC Files Police Complaint Against BJP’s Bhabesh Kalita Over Controversial Arunodoi Scheme Remarks
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has lodged a police complaint at Bhangagarh Police Station, Guwahati, against Bhabesh Kalita, the state president of the BJP. They accuse him of making unconstitutional and threatening comments about the Arunodoi Scheme during a public event in Rangiya on September 19.
Kalita allegedly declared that only members of the BJP would qualify for the benefits of the scheme. He supposedly warned attendees that those unable to verify their BJP membership would not receive the monthly payment of Rs 1,250. The APCC claims that these remarks are an intimidation tactic and an attempt to misuse government welfare programs for political ends.
Leading the delegation, Ratul Kalita, Chairman of the Social Media and IT Department for APCC, criticized Bhabesh Kalita’s statements as an assault on public confidence. "Bhabesh Kalita has lost his mental balance and is trying to safeguard his position by scaring the public," Ratul Kalita stated.
Joining the delegation were senior figures from the APCC, including Vice President Rupa Deuri, General Secretary Arun Tiwari, and Secretary Kridip Barman. They demanded the immediate arrest of Bhabesh Kalita, emphasizing that welfare schemes, funded by taxpayers, should be administered impartially without any political bias. “Welfare schemes funded by taxpayers should be distributed equally to all beneficiaries, without political bias,” Kridip Barman reiterated.
This incident has raised concerns over the neutrality and fairness of government welfare programs in Assam, particularly with regard to the Arunodoi Scheme, which is intended to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged families. The matter continues to develop as authorities review the complaint.
