APCC’s Fierce Retaliation: FIR Against Bhabesh Kalita Over Controversial Orunodoi Scheme Remarks
APCC Lodges FIR Against Assam BJP President Over Orunodoi Scheme Remarks
Guwahati, Sept 21: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) lodged an FIR against Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita at Guwahati’s Bhangagarh police station on Friday. The complaint arises from Kalita’s controversial remarks regarding the Orunodoi scheme, wherein he stated that only BJP members would receive the scheme’s benefits.
Kalita made these remarks during a public meeting in Rangiya on September 20 at Dipteshwari Public Harimandir. He urged attendees to make a missed call to a specific BJP number used for membership processes. “People who give a missed call to that number will receive Rs. 1250 from the scheme,” Kalita declared. Moreover, he allegedly mentioned that a BJP membership certificate is mandatory to avail the Orunodoi Scheme’s benefits.
This statement incited strong condemnation from the opposition party. Ratul Kalita, Chairman of APCC’s Social Media and IT Department, led a delegation to file the FIR, criticizing Bhabesh Kalita’s remarks as anti-constitutional and an attempt to misuse government welfare programs for political gains.
“Bhabesh Kalita has become unstable and is trying to protect his position by frightening the public. Welfare schemes are funded by taxpayers,” Ratul Kalita asserted. He also called for the immediate arrest of the BJP president.
The incident has stirred significant political tensions in Assam, with the opposition denouncing the politicization of welfare schemes. The demand for Kalita’s arrest further escalates the political narrative, with the APCC vehemently opposing any attempt to exploit government resources for political leverage.
