Explosive Revelation: POISON’s Rikki Rockett Unleashes Electrifying New Band – The Rockett Mafia!
POISON drummer Rikki Rockett has unveiled his new band, THE ROCKETT MAFIA, featuring Brandon Gibbs (DEVIL CITY ANGELS) on vocals and guitar, Mick Sweda (BULLETBOYS) on guitar and backing vocals, and Bryan Kimes on bass and backing vocals. Rockett and Gibbs, who previously played together in DEVIL CITY ANGELS, debuted THE ROCKETT MAFIA in May during The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride charity event in Santa Monica, California. They were joined by guitarist Brent Woods and bassist Wiley Hodgden.
Rockett and Gibbs have a history with DEVIL CITY ANGELS, a band they formed with guitarist Tracii Guns and bassist Eric Brittingham, releasing a self-titled debut album in 2015. Despite lineup changes and Rockett’s battle with cancer, the band enjoyed moderate success, releasing the single “Testify” in 2020. However, DEVIL CITY ANGELS eventually became inactive, partially due to personal challenges and scheduling conflicts.
In preparation for their recent performance, Rockett and Gibbs rekindled their musical chemistry, evoking memories of their DEVIL CITY ANGELS days. Rockett mentioned on social media how the jamming sessions reignited their passion for the music they once played together.
Rockett clarified that THE ROCKETT MAFIA is not a continuation of DEVIL CITY ANGELS or CHEVY METAL but a new project allowing him to indulge his love for rock ‘n’ roll with close friends. Despite past public disputes over the inactivity of DEVIL CITY ANGELS, Rockett and Gibbs have reconciled and are now focused on this new venture.
Reflecting on Gibbs’ talents, Rockett praised his ’70s rock sound and lack of industry baggage, making Gibbs an ideal collaborator. In 2015, Rockett and Gibbs had also performed with POISON members as THE SPECIAL GUESTS, signaling their willingness to stay active despite POISON frontman Bret Michaels’ solo pursuits.
