Manipur Government Relaxes Curfew in Four Districts Amid Improved Law and Order

Guwahati: The Manipur government has announced a relaxation of curfew in four districts – Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal – from 5 am to 8 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. This decision follows a noticeable improvement in the law and order situation in these areas.

The curfew relaxation aims to facilitate public access to essential commodities, including medicines. Despite the relaxation, gatherings, protests, and rallies remain prohibited without prior approval from the competent authority. However, individuals involved in essential services are exempt from curfews even beyond the specified relaxation period.

Curfews were initially imposed by district administrations on September 10, due to escalating protests by students that led to a deteriorating law and order situation.
